in 2013 we will organize the 4th International INQUA Meeting on Paleoseismology, Active Tectonics and Archeoseismology in Western Germany. The online registration will open soon atpaleoseismicity.org and additional information will follow during the next days.
Date: 9-14 October 2013
Location: Aachen, Germany
The last three meetings in Spain (2009), Greece (2011), and Mexico (2012) brought together more than 250 international scientists from earthquake geology and all neighbouring disciplines. We have seen fruitful and intense discussions, we kicked off dozens of joint projects and we started international collaborations and initiatives to extend the knowledge on past earthquakes. A large number of peer reviewed articles has been published in Special Volumes as an outcome of these conferences. It became clear that paleoseismological research is imperative to seismic hazard studies. It will gain even more importance in the emerging discussion on seismic safety of nuclear power plants and waste deposits, chemical industry and other critical facilities and infrastructure. During the Aachen 2013 meeting we will deepen international collaboration, we will discuss the road map of our discipline and we will throw the points of future initiatives.
We invite you to actively participate in this meeting and to enjoy the beauty of this old cultural landscape with its geological wonders.
Aachen is located directly at the border to Belgium and the Netherlands. The strongest historical earthquake in Germany, the 1756 Düren event with a magnitude of ~6, occurred few kilometers east of the city in the Lower Rhine Embayment. Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler with its AKNZ federal conference centre is only one hour away and located at the River Rhine. Aachen can easily be reached from FRA, DUS, CGN, AMS, MST, NRN and BRU airports. The city is connected to the ICE high-speed train network with direct connections to Cologne, Frankfurt Airport, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, and Paris.
Travel grants will be available for Early Career Researchers from developing countries. Further information will be published, soon.
