EARTHQUAKE HAZARD RESEARCHER
The British Geological Survey (BGS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK’s premier geosciences research organisation. We are seeking an innovative and dynamic scientist for a 3 year Post Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position to pursue a supervised programme of personal research as part of our seismic hazard research team based in Edinburgh. You will also assist with commercial seismic hazard work for engineering projects, insurance or government, and support wider earthquake seismology research. As a PDRA, you will undertake a programme of training in scientific research methods and modelling. The varied nature of the work will include opportunities to present that work at international conferences and exhibitions.
BGS has a long track record of studies of seismic hazard around the world and is recognised internationally as an authority on seismic hazard methodology and associated software development, and has pioneered developments in stochastic modelling (Monte Carlo simulation) for probabilistic seismic hazard, and the use of source model validation techniques.

Additional Salary Information: Starting salary will be £26,180 per annum rising to £29,410 per annum after three years service. A resettlement award will be given at the end of the training contract. A detailed training programme will be agreed. Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks. A generous benefits package is also offered, including a company pension scheme, childcare voucher scheme, 30 days annual leave plus 10.5 days public and privilege holidays.
