National Oceanography Centre, Southampton
Applicants are sought for two post-doctoral research posts in marine mineral resources
We are seeking high-calibre applicants for two 2-year fixed-term appointments in the field of marine mineral resources. One post is for a geologist specialising in ore petrology and geochemistry. The other post is for a geophysicist specialising in shallow section marine seismic imaging.
Global interest in marine minerals is growing rapidly. The National Oceanography Centre (UK) is one of the World’s leading institutes for marine science and technology and is at the forefront of research into the potential resource and environmental implications of marine mineral exploitation.
Successful candidates will undertake data and sample collection at sea, laboratory analyses and data processing at NOC and at the BGS in Keyworth, and document the results in reports and co-authored peer-reviewed papers. Career development will be nurtured through formal continuing professional development, scientific publication, conference delivery, MSc student supervision and competitive proposal writing.
The posts are offered on Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) terms and conditions, with indicative salaries at Band 6 (£28,200 to £30,600 per annum). NERC also provides generous benefits that include the RCUK final salary pension scheme and up to 40.5 days annual leave (inclusive of public/privilege days).
